The City of Ottawa has terminated its agreement with Service Line Warranties of Canada (SLWC), citing the significant growth of warranty services and insurance coverage now available to homeowners to cover service line repairs on their properties.
Water and sewer/septic service lines, including the stormwater sewer line, connect a homeowner’s property to the City’s water and wastewater systems. Homeowners are responsible for any repair costs associated with the section of the line located on their property.
When the City first entered the agreement with SLWC in 2020, there was a lack of available warranty programs to help homeowners cover these costly repairs. As a result, the City endorsed the program with SLWC to provide residents with an optional and voluntary warranty program to help cover possible expenses associated with the repairs of their private service lines. This initiative also aimed to enhance homeowner awareness regarding their responsibilities for these services.
Ending this agreement is not a reflection of the services offered by SLWC and will not impact existing policies. The policy contracts remain solely between the resident and SLWC.
Residents can learn more about the termination of the agreement with SLWC and are encouraged to familiarize themselves with their responsibilities as homeowners concerning private water and sewer services.
Any questions regarding terms and conditions, enrollment, billing, or payment should be directed to SLWC.
