Here's a quick follow up for those of you who heard and felt a loud blast/explosion in our Ward shortly before noon on Monday.
One of the project engineers in charge of the Cavanagh pit off Dwyer Hill Road has confirmed with the City that a blast occurred there at 11:50 am on Monday, one that fell within standard limits. The engineer was made aware of the concerns brought to us by the community and they're not certain why this particular blast seems to have been heard from so far away. They say Monday's atmospheric conditions and low ceiling may have played a role in carrying the noise from the blast farther than usual.
Cavanagh held a meeting yesterday to discuss strategies and protocols on how to further improve their process to minimize the effects on the community.
Please note that this is not an issue the City has jurisdiction over. Residents who are concerned should connect with the Ministry of the Environment and/or Cavanagh, and they are welcome to copy us on any emails.
