Waste Management/Public Liaison Committee Seeks Two New Representatives from Community

We need your help.

We are looking for two new representatives from the community for the Waste Management/Public Liaison Committee. One is a citizen rep and the other is a business rep.

Entrance to Waste Management on Carp Road

Background:

In September 2013, the Ontario Ministry of the Environment (MOE) set out a number of conditions for approval of the expansion of the WM Landfill site on Carp Road that Waste Management must meet. One of those conditions was the establishment of a Community Liaison Committee (PLC).

The PLC provides input and guidance, and makes recommendations for all aspects of the landfill expansion project during both development and ongoing operation including:

  • open and transparent dialogue between the community and the company

  • fair compensation and treatment of the community by the company

  • recycling and organic plans

  • operations of the site

  • use of buffer lands

  • recycling and organic operations as expansion of the site matures.

The PLC has 12 voting members:

  • two members from Waste Management

  • five City of Ottawa Councillors from the following wards:  West Carleton-March, Stittsville, Kanata North, Kanata South, and Rideau-Jock

  • three members of the public from the surrounding community

  • two members of the local business community.

If you are interested in being a member of the Public Liaison Committee and the important work it does, please send an expression of interest along with relevant experience and resume to Clarke.Kelly@ottawa.ca
